Wow, what a long month between races, one month.

The car is currently being prepared and will be ready Thursday for the test day this Friday. No improvemts this visit, just fixing a few problems that we did not have the time to fix until now.
I was on track two weeks ago in a practice session with an instructor working on a few bad habits I had developed. I now think I have them corrected, if so, I should be smoother this weekend. I had developed the bad habit of over driving the car, and braking too late and entering the corners to fast and creating oversteer.
I forgot the first rule of road racing "slow in and fast out"
I spent the day with an excellent coach and I believe he has me back on track.

My goal for this weekend is to put the renewed skills to work and be as smooth as possible, the race results will take care of themselves

John

Shannonville weekend results

Not a great weekend, 6th in class in all three races.

We had the set-up incorrect in the 1st race and the car was almost undriveable. We made some improvements for the 2nd race but I did not adjust my style enough after the over and under steer conditions of the first race and still finished 6th.
In the final race, the feature, I had already used up the tires and the car was all over the track. On these very technical tracks that really identify driving errors, I need to adjust my style.
We plan to test at a similar track in a few weeks and I plan to work very hard on not turning in too early, using all of the available track and saving the tires.
Have a look at the video I will post tomorrow and see my challenge with this track.

Mosport is next, back to a track I do very well at, come out and support the team.
John

A challenging weekend. My old nemesis, the Shannonville race track.I have always had trouble with this very bumpee and very technical track. If you go off the racing surface even a little you generally rip off the splitter and do other damage. The track surface is extremely hard on tires and the large number of turns makes it very hard on brakes. One other issue, the track is very narrow making it hard to pass.
Other than that, I love this track.
I am in third place in GT3 after one race weekend, I need to stay focussed to improve my position after this weekend. I will post the results right after the races.
John

We are in the final stages of car preparation and we are expecting improved results this year. We were pleased with the 7th overall in North America result in 2008 but hope to improve on that in 2009.
I plan to take my laptop and download some in-car videos and update my blog during the weekend while we are still at the track.
This is our first visit to this excellent venue, the track is both fast and technical and we believe our modifications will allow us to be more competitive at this type of track.
Wish us well and please check back starting the 11th for updates and videos.
John

We are getting ready for the start of the 2009 season. There has been a number of exciting changes in the off season:
1) Car upgrades
2) Additional Race Series
3) New car number

We have made a number of improvements to the car to improve the suspension and performance for this season. We have changed the rear trailing arms to new M3 much stronger parts with all new bushings and bearings to improve handling in corners. We have also changed the fly wheel and clutch from the stock heavy M3 - E36 version 52 lbs to a super lightweight JB Racing aluminum fly wheel and racing clutch - 11 lbs. We have also removed more weight from the interior, reducing the overall weight to 2400 lbs compared to the 2650 from last season.
We have also entered a 3rd race series-National Auto Sport Association (NASA) to give us more race weekends and to expand our track experience to most of the key tracks in North America in preparation for entering a full pro race series for next season which is part of our 3 year plan.
To enable a common number across all three series we have had to change from #009 to our new #30 number.
Please come our see our first races in 2009 and stop by the paddock and say hello
Regards,
John

Watkins Glen weekend Sept 26-28th

Rain/Rain/Rain
Not a great weekend, it rained all three days with Sunday being the worst. I was able to finish 6th overall in my first points race on Friday, 13th overall on the Sat race. The Sunday race was a wash out, I should have started 13th on the grid but with all the rain and lack of communication I was a few minutes late getting to the grid and had to start at the back of the field.
The rain was heavy for two hours prior to the race and very heavy during the race. There were rivers of water running across the track at many corners. I as able to move up from the back of a 30 car field to 13th before two serious crashes and a full course yellow ended the race.
I did well for my first race at the Glen but I wanted to do much better. My next race is at Mid Ohio Oct 24-26th
John

Watkins Glen

I am looking forward to the upcoming BMW club race weekend at Watkins Glen in New York state Sept 25-27th. There is a registered field of 140 cars with the larger field divided into two race groups of 70 cars each. There is also a number of pro racers registered to compete this weekend.
It will be great to test myself versus some excellent pro competition from the World Speed Challenge series with the new lighter car.
Watkins Glen is an excellent high speed historic track, ad we are hopeful that the recent changes with the lighter car will allow us to be more competitive with the high horsepower cars. We may also be lucky and have some rain, our new Hoosier full rain tires would be helpful and may give us a real advantage. We may have a chance to win a race or two this weekend.
Please follow our daily blogs as I update you on the results from the Friday, Saturday and Sunday races.
John
